DEPTHLINK / SUBSEA SWITCHES

Subsea Mechanical Limit Switch

CONFIGURED TO YOUR APPLICATION

Direct plunger actuation for end-position feedback on subsea actuators, latches and submerged machinery. Develop the switch, mounting arrangement and Nano subsea cable connection as one assembly.

ACTUATIONAxial mechanical plunger
CONNECTIONNano subsea cable assembly

Why choose this configuration?

Consider when the mechanism can deliberately actuate a plunger and allow for its operating travel.

Axial mechanical plunger
Installation
Threaded mounting nose with adjustable locknut

Choose the mounting and connection around the mechanism, then match the electrical and immersion duty.

FUNCTION & INTEGRATION

Positive contact. Defined end position.

A cam or moving stop depresses the plunger at a defined point in the mechanism’s travel. The electrical contact changes state, then resets as the mechanism moves away.

01 / Free position

Confirm the unactuated contact state and plunger return behaviour.

02 / Operating point

Define the travel and force at which the contact changes state.

03 / Overtravel & reset

Allow the permitted additional travel, then confirm the release point on return.

BROAD TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

Specify the assembly.
Resolve every interface.

Provide a separate mechanical stop. The switch plunger must not absorb the mechanism’s full stopping load; side loads and cam geometry need review.

Key engineering inputs

  • Operating travel and force at the required pressure
  • Permitted overtravel, total stroke and reset differential
  • Cam alignment, return action and cycle duty
  • Contact load, circuit protection and required switching function

No pressure, electrical or functional-safety certification is implied by this overview.

MATERIALS & SUBSEA CONNECTIONS

One coordinated
engineering brief.

Review wetted materials, static seals, mounting and cable construction together. Titanium, Inconel and Monel options require an agreed grade and evaluation of the complete design.

Specify the exact Nano mating pair and pin allocation. A connector’s immersion rating does not automatically establish the switch assembly rating or permit underwater mating.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE · Subsea Mechanical Limit Switch

How the plunger detects a defined position

  1. Mechanism approaches

A cam or moving feature is aligned to contact the switch plunger at the required position.

  2. Plunger operates the contact

Physical movement of the plunger changes the electrical contact state at its operating point. Confirm the selected contact arrangement on the configuration drawing.

  3. Signal returns through the subsea cable

The switching circuit connects to the control input through the specified subsea termination and cable assembly.

  4. Mechanism releases

As the mechanism moves away, the plunger returns and the contact resets. Provide a separate mechanical stop and allow the agreed operating travel and overtravel.

INSTALLATION & SELECTION

Before you fit the switch.

Can this switch operate continuously underwater?

This is a subsea switch configuration. Specify continuous immersion as an operating duty, including external pressure, duration, water temperature and media. The supplied assembly specification defines its limits, including the actuation interface and cable termination.

What should I specify for use in seawater?

Specify the water conditions and the materials of the housing, connector, mounting hardware and target or striker. Material selection is specific to the installation; a corrosion-resistant housing does not establish the suitability of every connected component.

Can the switch stop the mechanism?

Use a separate mechanical stop. A striker or cam operates the plunger, with room for the specified overtravel and reset. The switch is a position input; it should not take the mechanism’s stopping load.
